Senior Shopware Software Engineer

Our customer is a small German e-commerce company in the jewelry and fashion accessories industry, selling products through an online store built on Shopware 6. The company has experienced business growth but the technical setup and development processes require professionalization. The goal is to improve transparency, introduce structured workflows, and stabilize the platform.

You will join a project focused on bringing structure, stability and long-term ownership to an existing Shopware 6 e-commerce platform.

Following a migration from Shopware 5, the platform is ready for its next stage: improving development workflows, documenting the system and gradually evolving the architecture. The role begins with a discovery phase, where you will gain a deep understanding of the system and introduce best practices. Over time, you will become the key technical owner responsible for ongoing development and improvements.

You’ll join a small, focused team consisting of the Business Owner, Product Owner, a Technical Coordinator responsible for project coordination, and the current developer. As the Senior Shopware Developer, you will gradually take technical ownership of the platform, focusing on stabilization and ongoing development.

• Perform a technical audit of the existing Shopware 6 platform.
• Review plugins and custom code.
• Conduct knowledge transfer with the current developer.
• Document architecture and system components.
• Identify technical risks and debt.
• Introduce JIRA-based workflow.
• Establish documentation practices.
• Improve Git structure and deployment processes.
• Implement new features.
• Refactor existing code and reduce technical debt.
• Fix bugs and improve system stability.
• Optimize performance and security.
• Maintain plugins and customizations.
• Provide regular progress updates and transparency to stakeholders.

Must-Have Skills

• 3+ years of experience with Shopware 6
• Strong experience with: Shopware plugins, Decorators, Event subscribers, Custom entities, Admin API
• Strong knowledge of: PHP 8+, Symfony, Vue.js (Shopware Admin), Twig, MySQL / MariaDB, Elasticsearch / OpenSearch
• Experience working with Git and structured workflows
• Experience working with legacy or undocumented codebases
• Fluent English

Nice to Have

• Experience with Shopware 5 → Shopware 6 migration
• Experience with performance optimization
• Experience with ERP or PIM integrations
