Project details

We are seeking a motivated and technically skilled R Engineer to join our team in building and maintaining a proprietary R-based scientific software ecosystem, including a large-scale package library tailored to enterprise research needs. In this role, you will also provide hands-on support to end users, helping them leverage the platform effectively across diverse research workflows, while overseeing the deployment and ongoing management of multiple Posit-based environments.

This is a fully remote, full-time position operating within PST/PDT business hours. You will be embedded within a geographically distributed team, coordinating with stakeholders across multiple regions and time zones.

Your Team

Beyond development, the team supports end users directly to ensure successful platform adoption for research purposes and oversees substantial deployments across several Posit platforms. In this role, you will partner with a globally distributed team and stakeholders, contributing to a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

What's in it for you

  • Interview process that respects people and their time
  • Professional and open IT community
  • Internal meet-ups and resources for knowledge sharing
  • Time for recovery and relaxation
  • Bright online and offline events
  • Opportunity to become part of our internal volunteer community

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with developers and end-user communities.
  • Build, deploy, and troubleshoot R software packages within a managed application stack.
  • Provide R programming language support as part of the enablement team.
  • Relay stakeholder needs to developer teams.
  • Prepare and deliver training sessions.

Skills

What we expect:

  • Strong expertise in the R programming language ecosystem and Posit tools (RStudio/Workbench, RShiny/Connect)
  • Ability to troubleshoot dependencies and build failures for R packages
  • Experience providing technical support and enablement to software end users
  • Knowledge of Git and experience with GitHub, GitLab, and/or Bitbucket
  • Strong working experience with Linux/Unix operating systems, software compilation, and command line
  • Experience presenting work to diverse audiences (stakeholders, technical teams, management)
  • Working hours must overlap with US Pacific Time (12:00 PM – 5:00 PM PST)

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Bioconductor (open-source bioinformatics software repository)
  • Experience with Python and Jupyter Notebook
  • Experience with software packaging tools such as EasyBuild, Spack, or Homebrew
  • Experience with DevOps practices, including CI/CD and testing frameworks
  • Degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Life Sciences, or Physical Sciences
