About Viewer Experience

The Viewer Experience team builds algorithms and services that enable millions of Paramount+ and Pluto TV users to interact with our platform. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who specializes in designing and building scalable APIs and backend services capable of handling thousands of requests per second (RPS) at Paramount+ and Pluto TV’s scale.

Who’d Love to Work With
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong experience in developing scalable APIs and backend
services. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in building high-performance, scalable systems that
support thousands of RPS, along with experience guiding teams and promoting coding best practices. Paramount
operates in a multi-cloud environment, leveraging Java with Spring Boot, Golang, and a mix of cloud technologies
to support its infrastructure.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and implement scalable middleware APIs and backend services to support user management and other API services across Pluto TV , using Java with Spring Boot and Golang, capable of handling thousands of requests per second (RPS).
• Optimize and manage existing high-performance systems and services on both AWS and GCP.
• Integrate with services across Paramount streaming to ensure seamless functionality.
• Leverage GCP technologies such as Pub/Sub, GKE, and Cloud SQL to create robust, scalable systems.
• Maintain and support AWS technologies, including EKS, ECS, Lambda, and Step Functions, during the transition period.
• Promote coding excellence and enforce best practices for building scalable, high-throughput systems.
• Actively participate in the design and architecture phases of new features and services, ensuring scalability and performance.
• Contribute to technical strategy and roadmaps for both AWS and GCP environments
• Collaborate with cross-functional agile teams of software engineers, data engineers, and others to deliver new product features.

• What You Already Have
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 9+ years of experience in software development.
• 5+ years of experience building highly performant, scalable APIs and backend services capable of handling thousands of requests per second (RPS).
• Proficiency in Java with Spring Boot for developing scalable backend services.
• Experience with Golang.
• 3+ years of experience building containerized applications (e.g., Docker) on container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, ECS).
• Hands-on experience with GCP technologies, Pub/Sub, Kubernetes, MySQL, Yugabyte.
• Strong technical communication skills to articulate complex solutions.
• Strong understanding of cloud concepts across AWS and GCP environments.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a global, cross-functional environment with internal stakeholders and customers .

• 2+ years of development experience in Java with a deep understanding of programming concepts
• Previous experience with Golang or Kafka is a plus.
• Extensive experience with GCP technologies such as Pub/Sub, Kubernetes, and MySQL.
• Demonstrated success designing, developing, and deploying services with high-volume traffic (thousands of RPS) and/or broad usage (millions of MAUs).
• Intermediate to expert knowledge of EKS, GKE or vanilla Kubernetes with practical, hands-on experience.
