Senior Data Steward

The client is a leading international consulting company specializing in real estate, infrastructure, and industrial sector solutions. Headquartered in Stuttgart, Germany, they operate in over 60 locations worldwide with approximately 6,000 employees. 
They are recognized for their strong focus on sustainability, digital transformation, and industrial modernization, delivering cost-efficient, future-ready solutions tailored to complex enterprise environments.

Our client, a leading international consulting company in the DACH region, is rolling out an enterprise-wide Data Governance Framework across its business units and corporate functions. The foundation is already in place, including data domains, subdomains and ownership structures. The next phase is about putting the framework into practice: creating transparency over enterprise data assets, implementing metadata management in Microsoft Purview, and embedding governance processes into day-to-day operations.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Data Steward who combines strong business understanding with hands-on technical data management skills and can drive implementation independently.

You’ll be part of the client’s Data Governance team, working hand in hand with business data owners, data stewards, and IT and data platform teams to bring an established governance framework to life across the organization.

Data Governance Implementation

• Operationalize the established Data Governance Framework across business units and corporate functions.
• Maintain, validate and enhance data domain and subdomain structures.
• Support Data Owners and Business Data Stewards in their roles.
• Develop and maintain governance documentation, policies, standards and procedures.
• Identify governance gaps and coordinate their resolution.

Microsoft Purview & Metadata Management

• Support the configuration, implementation and ongoing use of Microsoft Purview.
• Build and maintain business glossaries, metadata structures and data asset inventories.
• Map business terms, data domains, subdomains and data products to technical data assets.
• Support metadata ingestion, classification and lineage documentation.
• Ensure the consistency, completeness and quality of catalog information.
• Work with IT and data platform teams on technical metadata integration.

Data Asset Management

• Establish and maintain a consolidated Data Asset Register.
• Identify, document and classify data assets across enterprise systems.
• Link business data requirements to underlying systems, datasets and data structures.
• Coordinate data asset validation with business and technical stakeholders.

Data Quality & KPI Monitoring

• Help define and implement data quality rules and controls.
• Monitor governance KPIs such as ownership, classification, criticality and metadata completeness.
• Maintain KPI registers and support governance reporting.
• Coordinate the identification, documentation and remediation of data quality issues.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Work directly with Business Data Owners, Data Stewards, IT and other stakeholders.
• Translate business requirements into concrete governance and metadata management activities.
• Track agreed actions, resolve dependencies and ensure timely delivery.

Must-have

• 5+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Stewardship, Metadata Management or Data Management
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview (business glossary, metadata management, data catalog)
• Experience building and maintaining Data Asset Registers and metadata inventories
• Solid understanding of business and technical metadata, data classification, ownership and data lineage
• Experience with Data Quality Management and governance KPIs
• Ability to translate business requirements into technical data management activities
• Strong organizational skills, a proactive working style and full ownership of your deliverables
• Fluent German and good professional English

Nice-to-have

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure and Power BI
• SQL knowledge and understanding of relational data structures
• Experience with metadata ingestion and automated cataloging
• Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM or similar frameworks
• Experience in decentralized organizations with multiple business units
