Your Team

CBS Digital is looking for a hands-on product builder to work directly on our internal CMS: the authoring, publishing, and operations tools editors, producers, and operators use to get coverage in front of fans. This is a tactical, execution-heavy contract role. You will be sitting with the people who use the tools, turning what you learn into shaped bets and designed flows, and shipping improvements inside fixed cycles.

Product and design are one job here. You frame the problem, sketch the flow, prototype it with AI,test it with the editors who will live in it, and work with engineering until it is in production and measured.

What's in it for you

  • Interview process that respects people and their time
  • Professional and open IT community
  • Internal meet-ups and resources for knowledge sharing
  • Time for recovery and relaxation
  • Bright online and offline events
  • Opportunity to become part of our internal volunteer community

Responsibilities

  • Prototype with AI-assisted tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Figma Make) so stakeholders react to something real before engineering commits.
  • Design end-to-end authoring and publishing flows, including the states and edge cases that matter in a newsroom: errors, empty states, concurrent edits, and deadline moments.
  • Shape well-defined bets for the CMS squad: briefs with clear appetite, boundaries, success criteria, and risks named before the cycle starts.
  • Run lightweight discovery with editorial, production, and operations users: shadowing, usability checks, session review, and quick experiments.
  • Define measurement for each bet up front (time to publish, error rates, task completion, adoption) and read the results after launch.
  • Handle day-to-day alignment for your bets, including privacy, compliance, and business stakeholders, so the squad stays unblocked.
  • What success looks like:
  • The squad starts every cycle with a shaped brief and a tested flow, not a loose idea.
  • Flows ship in reliable increments, use the design system consistently, and need little rework from engineering.
  • Editors and producers notice the tools getting faster and less error-prone, and say so.
  • Each bet has a readout: what moved, what did not, and what changes next cycle.
  • Engineering leads describe you as a trusted partner on tradeoffs, not a handoff.

Skills

  • 5+ years of experience shipping internal tools or workflow products as a PM, a product designer, or both.Strong interaction design craft: clear hierarchy, sensible defaults, graceful handling of mistakes, and polish that matches shipping quality, not mockup quality.
  • Comfort working close to backend constraints (APIs, data models, permissions) and designing within them rather than around them.
  • A default of prototyping with AI tools and validating with real users before asking for engineering time.
  • Fluency with analytics and lightweight experimentation, and the discipline to define success before you build.
  • Ability to onboard quickly, operate with little oversight, and communicate clearly with both technical and editorial audiences.
