Scrum Master

A global trade association representing approximately 350 airlines, accounting for over 80% of worldwide air traffic. The organization is committed to representing, leading, and serving the airline industry by developing commercial and safety standards, advocating for industry policy, and offering services such as financial solutions and operational safety audits.

Reporting to the Head Data Engineering and Operations, the incumbent will be involved with several IT projects with a strong Kafka component where they will help drive the implementation of best practices, advise project resources as well as skill up IATA internal resources in this area through coaching, documentation and ad hoc clarifications.

You will join a collaborative team of experts focused on managing and optimizing release processes across platforms. The team works closely with internal stakeholders, external vendors, and business partners to ensure operational excellence and compliance with industry standards.

This role goes beyond traditional Scrum facilitation: you will work closely with Product Owners, Solution Architects, Technical Leads, and Developers to translate business needs into clear technical requirements in Jira, ensuring both frontend (React/Angular) and backend (Java Spring Boot microservices) teams deliver high-quality solutions efficiently.

• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential to foster collaboration, remove impediments, and help teams continuously improve.
• Facilitate daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint demo, and retrospective meetings.
• Foster an environment where questions, challenges, and experimentation are encouraged to help teams solve complex issues.
• Ensure teams are fully functional and productive, enabling them to achieve sprint goals.
• Guide and coach the Scrum Team on Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers.
• Help the Product Owner and Technical Lead translate business requirements into clear, technical Jira stories with definedacceptance criteria and Definition of Done.
• Coach the Scrum Team in self-organization and cross-functionality.
• Remove impediments to the team’s progress and ensure scrum events are productive and timeboxed.
• Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency and radiating information.
• Support and educate the Product Owner on backlog grooming and prioritization.
• Provide servant leadership and lead by example, fostering collaboration and accountability.
• Track and report on Agile metrics (velocity, burndown, lead time) to support continuous improvement.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Scrum Master in software development teams.
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent Agile certification.
• Proven knowledge of Agile techniques such as User Stories, Continuous Integration, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, and Agile Games.
• Experience with frontend projects in Angular and backend projects in Java Spring Boot microservices.
• Moderate to high technical awareness — expected to understand tech stacks, APIs, CI/CD, and architecture concepts.
• Strong understanding of servant leadership, facilitation, conflict resolution, and transparency.
• Excellent communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to distinguish between what is Scrum and what is not Scrum.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
• Experience working with distributed or remote teams.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Previous hands-on experience in software development or QA engineering.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and microservices orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker).
• Exposure to enterprise-scale Agile frameworks such as SAFe or LeSS.
