Senior Kafka Software Engineer

Our customer is an international trade organization established over 70 years ago by a group of airlines. The organization represents around 330 airlines, accounting for more than 80% of the world's air traffic.

Reporting to the Head Data Engineering and Operations, the incumbent will be involved with several IT projects with a strong Kafka component where they will help drive the implementation of best practices, advise project resources as well as skill up the customer internal resources in this area through coaching, documentation and ad hoc clarifications.

Reporting to the Tech Lead Cloud Engineering, The Manager, Cloud Engineering will primarily be responsible for the client’s AWS Cloud Infrastructure, IT Operations and management of the providers that are running AWS workloads on behalf of the customer. The incumbent will also need to ensure adherence to the client’s Unified Infrastructure standards and suggest improvements to the overall DevSecOps lifecycle of the organization.

• Mentor and upskill internal staff through documentation, training, and knowledge transfer.
• Share hands-on expertise in Kafka (preferably MSK) design, configuration, and operations.
• Design reliability patterns (e.g., retries, dead-letter queues, idempotency) in microservices and orchestrations with Kafka.
• Review and guide multiple project deliverables to align with customer best practices and enterprise standards.
• Advise on integration patterns, security, performance tuning, and monitoring in AWS.
• Document the customer's technical standards in the area

Qualifications

• Strong experience with Apache Kafka (MSK preferred).
• Experience with Kafka Connect, Kafka Streams, or ksqlDB.
• Proven expertise in reliability patterns and microservice orchestration using Kafka (sagas, event sourcing, outbox, DLQ, retries, idempotency), with the ability to coach teams and guide implementation.
• Exposure to data governance and observability in streaming pipelines.
• Proven track record on enterprise-scale Kafka projects.
• Good knowledge of event-driven architectures and streaming patterns.
• Familiarity with AWS networking, IAM, CloudWatch, and related services.
• Excellent communication and knowledge-sharing skills.
